1. Review collection techniques for sputum and wound specimens for bacteriology culture.

2. Describe work up of sputum and wounds in the laboratory.

3. Relate reporting of sputum and wounds in a clinically relevant, cost effective manner.

Dr. Susan Sharp is the Scientific Director for COPAN Diagnostics. Dr. Sharp was a clinical microbiology laboratory director for over 30 years. She is an active member of The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and a past president of ASM. Dr. Sharp has served on various boards and committees including the CAP Microbiology Resource Committee, the Board of Scientific Councilors for the Office of Infectious Diseases at the CDC and is currently serving as a board member for the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).




SWACM is approved as a Provider of Continuing Education Programs in Clinical Laboratory Sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program. Completion of this program will provide 1.0 contact hour of continuing education. SWACM programs are approved for California-licensed clinical laboratory scientists and personnel. The instructional level of this program is intermediate.
